Domain 1: Planning and Preparation

Within the Danielson Framework, Domain 1 shows the way an educator structures the material in which they expect their students to learn. It is the job of an effective teacher to plan their lessons and curriculum incorporating their wide knowledge of the content area, how their content connects to other subject matters, and their understanding of their students’ prior knowledge of the content. It is crucial to have all of these aspects in mind when planning and preparing in order meet one’s students where they are, expand their knowledge on the content area, and draw a through-line for them. It is also a part of an educator’s professional responsibilities to demonstrate knowledge of resources, ability to choose instructional goals, design a coherent curriculum, and create tools to assess their students’ learning.
